Opportunities to help the Homeless

Looking to help the homeless, here are a few places:

Norristown Hospitality Center
Phone: 610-277-1321
Website: www.hospitalitycenter.org
Address: 530 Church St., Norristown, PA
What do they do? The Hospitality Center is the only full service day shelter in downtown Norristown that accepts anyone. Those full services include shelter, food, shower, phone, fax, mail, access to two addictions counselors and two social workers. This is entirely funded without government money.

St. Mary's Franciscan Shelter
Phone: 610-933-3097
Website: www.stmarysfs.org
Address: 209 Emmett St., Phoenixville
What do they do? St. Mary's is the only Family homeless shelter in our area. They work with families to find jobs, housing and general support.

Opportunities with the Elderly
September is National Senior Citizen Center Month. This would be a great opportunity to have your girls visit a local senior center. Girls could run some games, present a craft, bring and serve ice cream, sing some songs, or teach seniors how to use social media. Even the Daisies could sing and color pictures while they visit with the members.

The Norristown Center also delivers Meals on Wheels to the Greater Norristown and Lower Providence areas. 130 people receive two meals each week day. Pictures, cards or small crafts would also be appreciated to be included with these meals.

Visits are welcome any time of the year and most activities can be accommodated. Contact Susan Edgren, [email protected] to schedule a visit at S.A.A.C. in Norristown or if you are interested in providing Meals on Wheels items.

Visiting a nursing home down your troops ally? There are many choice for your troop to visit. One of the most accommodating is Parkhouse in Royersford. Parkhouse is a low income facility having men and women  - some of whom have dementia.
